STORMING Consortium Gathers in Ljubljana to Align on Final Steps and Prepare for Project Showcase

Ljubljana, Slovenia – 26–27 August 2025

The STORMING consortium met in Ljubljana, hosted by the National Institute of Chemistry (Kemijski inštitut), for its sixth consortium meeting, marking an important milestone in the final phase of the project. Over two days, partners reviewed progress, coordinated dissemination activities, and refined the last stages of technical and communication work leading up to the project’s conclusion.

This meeting provided a valuable opportunity for all partners to exchange results in person and ensure alignment ahead of the Final Event in October 2025. Discussions focused on integrating recent data, final validation of reactor performance, and preparing demonstrations to present the project’s main outcomes to stakeholders and the wider research community.

Reviewing Three Years of Collaborative Progress

Since its launch in 2022, the STORMING project (Structured unconventional reactors for CO₂-free methane catalytic cracking) has advanced new approaches for producing CO₂-free hydrogen and carbon nanomaterials through electrified catalytic methane decomposition. Partners discussed the latest updates on the performance of electrified reactor prototypes, the use of 3D-printed structured monoliths, and pathways for scaling up the process for industrial applications.

The meeting also focused on ongoing activities in knowledge sharing and communication to maximise the project’s visibility and ensure a strong legacy beyond its lifetime. The collaborative spirit and technical commitment of the consortium have been central to driving innovation throughout the project’s three years of operation.

Looking Ahead to the Final Event

The Ljubljana meeting set the stage for the STORMING Final Event, scheduled for 7 October 2025 in Arnhem, the Netherlands. The event will showcase the project’s reactor demonstration at HyGear’s facilities and bring together experts, policymakers, and sister projects to explore the future of electrified hydrogen technologies.

The discussions in Ljubljana reaffirmed the consortium’s shared goal of presenting a comprehensive picture of STORMING’s results and continued progress towards sustainable hydrogen solutions.
