STORMING at European Hydrogen Week 2024

From November 18th to 21st, the STORMING project showcased its innovative contributions to the hydrogen economy at European Hydrogen Week 2024, held at the Brussels Expo. This flagship event brought together leaders from across the sector, offering a dynamic platform to share our vision and connect with the growing hydrogen community.

At the EU Pavilion, Vesna Middelkoop from VITO delivered an insightful presentation on how STORMING is revolutionising hydrogen production through structured catalytic reactors powered by renewable electricity. This innovative approach focuses on achieving CO₂-free or CO₂-negative hydrogen production from methane, with the added benefit of producing high-value carbon nanotubes (CNTs) as a by-product, significantly reducing the net cost of hydrogen. The process is driven by advanced Fe-based catalysts, which ensure efficiency, sustainability, and scalability and utilises electrified reactors employing cutting-edge heating technologies such as microwave absorption and induction heating. Together, these advancements pave the way for a greener, more sustainable hydrogen future, with scalable technology ready for industrial application. This innovative approach was demonstrated through the presentation at the event, as well as the project’s commitment to advancing clean energy solutions while addressing critical challenges in the hydrogen value chain.

The STORMING exhibit also featured 3D-printed catalyst monoliths, giving visitors a tangible look at our advanced technologies. Adding an interactive twist, our collaboration with EEIP brought the Special Edition Enerwhizz quiz to the scene. Visitors tested their knowledge of hydrogen policy and technology, competing for instant prizes and a coveted spot among the top 50 players to win exclusive STORMING backpacks.

The enthusiasm and engagement from attendees underscored the importance of our work in driving the green energy transition. We extend our gratitude to everyone who visited and participated, and a special thanks to Vesna Middelkoopfor representing the project so eloquently.
