On 25 October 2024, the STORMING consortium held its first formal meeting of the High-Level Expert (HLE) Group, marking a key moment in the project’s strategic development. This online session brought together leading industrial and academic voices across the methane cracking and hydrogen value chain, offering valuable insight as the project enters its final implementation phase.

The HLE Group plays a critical role in supporting the project’s mission to develop structured reactors powered by renewable electricity, converting fossil and renewable methane (CH₄) into CO₂-free hydrogen and high-value carbon nanomaterials. The group includes experts with deep experience in areas such as catalysis, reactor design, hydrogen infrastructure, CNT manufacturing, and sustainable industrial processes.
Coordinated by EEIP, the meeting was attended by project representatives from the University of Bologna, HyGear, Cleancarb, and EEIP, alongside external experts including Gleb Veryasov (TotalEnergies), Kevin Van Geem (Ghent University), Matthieu Houllé (Nanocyl), and Fiorenzo Parrinello (SACMI Imola). Together, participants reviewed the project’s technical progress, reflected on recent results, and exchanged ideas about how to enhance STORMING’s exploitation potential and market readiness.
The meeting highlighted the importance of cross-sector collaboration and open dialogue, with expert feedback helping to shape the next stages of development. Specific emphasis was placed on refining the project’s stakeholder outreach, dissemination strategy, and positioning within the evolving hydrogen and clean-tech landscape. These exchanges also served to reinforce the shared goal of achieving higher Technology Readiness Levels and supporting the industrial deployment of STORMING’s technologies.
Looking ahead, the final meeting of the HLE Group will take place alongside the STORMING final public event, scheduled for August 2025 at HyGear’s facilities in Arnhem, Netherlands. The event will feature a live demonstration of the full-scale prototype, expert panel discussions, and presentations of results and synergies with other EU-funded initiatives.
The STORMING consortium is grateful for the contributions of the HLE Group members, whose insights help ensure that the project remains grounded in real-world needs and market dynamics.
